“SAXOPHONE IN THE NEW WORLD”
Nikita Petrov (saxophone)
Anna Bryleva (piano)
***
In most people’s minds, the saxophone is firmly associated with the American continent and even with certain styles and genres of music. But what if, beyond these established stereotypes, lies a vast wealth of magnificent works for saxophone by composers from both Americas, both classical and not?
In the concert program “Saxophone in the New World”, saxophonist Nikita Petrov and pianist Anna Bryleva invite listeners to transcend their usual understanding and immerse themselves in the world of amazing saxophone music. This includes a classic sonata by Paul Creston and the premiere of a sonata by contemporary composer Carter Penn, whose music combines the spirit and energy of our time with extraordinary lyricism and subtle emotion. There’s also a historical chronicle in a work by the great Argentinean Astor Piazzolla, and an immersion into a world of fantasy and fantasy with Lowell Lieberman. And at the end of the concert, we’ll hear how classical and jazz blend. This evening will truly offer the opportunity to discover the saxophone in a completely new light!
